Cold Red Review
Deadtide.com
Essex, England's Niota's debut Cold Red hit stores in September 2005 to
praise as a hybrid of fellow UK alt-rockers Funeral For A Friend and hardcore
mainstays Poison The Well. Here, we've got the debut single containing
just two songs. Interesting marketing idea, I suppose.
While Niota's sound isn't really given due credit by comparing it to the
aforementioned bands, Niota does successfully combine fast-paced alternative
rock-style vocals (a gritty sort of singing) along with abrasive, equally
as quick guitar and drum work. Niota seems to be one of those bands that
could and can cross genres into the lighter side of metal and the harder
side of alternative rock... It's just too bad that I can only guess from
these two tracks. The two, however, are surprisingly good, once you get
past Ben Keenan's unique vocal delivery. The talent and distinctively
interesting style is there for sure, but the songs (at least on this two-track
single) are not.
